An Online Home Based Business Is Not Rocket Science

A few years ago when I first started my online home business I didn't have a clue regarding how to go about it. I had never done any Internet marketing, and didn't know anything about websites or search engines or any of that other online business stuff...in short, I was a complete rookie. In retrospect, the two major things that really helped me was that I refused to be intimidated and I kept a realistic perspective (both in terms of initial financial results and the time frame necessary to become successful).

I know from my own years of experience that relatively few business ventures are started on the Internet by people with the experience, motivation, determination, backing, and support that it takes to even have a reasonable chance of success.

Real online business people are those who work hard, who immerse themselves deeply in marketing and advertising, and who put in long hours in the beginning in order to see their Internet-based businesses succeed.

Achieving success in an online business is not difficult to comprehend. There is indeed a learning curve, but it's not brain surgery. The process of learning isn't as much the issue as are the personal traits of motivation and determination.

Develop your marketing plan and execute it. There's no magic in this online home based business stuff. We're talking real world here. It's not nearly as romantic as winning the lottery, yet many of the thousands of people I have helped to start up their home businesses on the Internet clearly came in with what I have come to refer to as the "magic/lottery" mentality. Many of those folks went off to chase another rainbow after a few months, but some of them also came to their senses and buckled down to develop very successful home based businesses.

Run, don't walk, away from all of those people that offer you "shortcuts" or "success secrets" (probably in exchange for some of your money). I mean, if they had it all figured out, why would they sell this "magic answer" to you for a few bucks instead of just keeping it private and then making tons of money for themselves? (I'll leave it to you to connect the dots)

A key point to always keep in mind is that...business is business. Regardless of whether you are on the Internet or operating a business in a shopping mall. The same fundamental principles apply to both businesses.

1) You need to have a product, or products, to sell.

2) You need to advertise to get customers to buy your
products.

3) You need to provide support to your customers who buy
your products as a result of your advertising efforts.

4) You need to build a loyal customer following, so you can
maintain a profitable business over a period of time.


Many people fall into the trap of believing that because they are doing business on the Internet, some of these steps can either be skipped or they need to overemphasize one area or another.

The bottom line regarding an online business is that you will need to advertise and you will need to take care of your customers.

Run your online home business just like a real company because it is, in fact, a real business and you have a real opportunity to either be successful or to fail. The primary difference between an online business and a traditional business is location (no traditional "storefront"). Nearly everything else is essentially the same. You have products and your objective is to sell those products to people who want/need your products.

Remember, building a business takes time, determination, and patience. Far too many people seem to think that the traffic is just going to pour in once they have put up their own website on the Internet. As anyone who has had a website for a while knows...this simply is not true, but it is often the reason people get frustrated and quit. The fact of the matter is that you need to diligently promote/advertise your website in order for your online home based business to flourish and prosper.

One of the most important bits of advice that I can pass on to you is that you must be patient. Most people start their online home business with great enthusiasm and high expectations. Often, after a few months, they become disappointed and frustrated because they are not already making a large amount of money.

These impatient home business entrepreneurs then often start to jump from one program to another every few months (never allowing themselves enough time to succeed at any of them) and, finally, throw up their hands in frustration and declare that they just can’t make money online.

Stick with your business and don’t give up. Dogged persistence (much like the tenacity of a pit bull) is an absolutely vital key to your eventual success. Don’t give up when things become frustrating and you are not achieving the immediate success you expected. Give your online home based business sufficient time to develop and you realize the success you are seeking.

There is nothing magical about running an online home based business. It should be run the same as any traditional "bricks and mortar" business and it will succeed or fail depending on the time and effort you put into it.

My Secret Recipe For Home Business Success

A few months ago I decided to jump into an online marketing business. I thought that it couldn't be all that difficult to make money online. The genius in me thought that I would be able to figure this marketing thing out. After all it wasn't exactly rocket science.

I've spent hours promoting my web site. I began dropping my links, and submitted my advertisements, here and there, trying to sell products to earn a commission. As the days turned to months, I was quickly getting little, or nothing for my efforts. Frustrated, and disgusted with the results that I was having, I was ready to throw in the towel.

The methods that I used to promote my business did not produce the results that I wanted to see. But just the same I kept right on doing those same things over, and over again. In order to produce the results that I desired, I had to change. Of course, to change, I had to learn a different way of doing things. That also meant that I had to be open to learning new ideas.

So for me it was right back to school learning the basics. The only problem was, I never really started there to begin with.

The most basic ideas can have a profound affect on your success. Here’s a rule that I now live by. It is a rule that is very basic, but has been very helpful with keeping me on track, and it has given me something to always shoot for.

I have discovered the importance of writing down my goals, and yes it has to be written down. If you do not write them down it might get forgotten, or lost, that translates into wasted time. A written goal on the other hand can pave the road to success, and here is how. I write down a short-term goal like this one. I want to make $100 dollars this month. I then write underneath what I need to do to achieve that goal. In this case I would have to sell X amount of products, or services to make that $100. Then I jot down the individual steps that I need to take to sell that quantity of products, or services.

Example: My Goal is to make $100 dollars this month. I need to sell 15 of this product.
Step 1: Advertise by pay per click!
Step 2: Learn how to use pay per click!
Step 3: Tell my prospects about my product. Ect…

By doing this very simple exercise you create a road map, a checklist to follow. Now we have a direct path that will lead us to accomplishing the goal that we set out for ourselves. The concept is very basic, and it works every time. As you walk through each step you come one step closer to achieving that goal. By achieving that goal you have just witnessed success.

There are more things that will need to happen before you see absolute success, but writing down your goals it is a good place to start. You may want to brush up on your online marketing skills. I found a single web site that has made it much easier for me to sell products on-line. Thanks to my new resource I am getting taught the A,B,C’s to online marketing. You see the other things that need to happen for anyone to see success is being taught the fundamentals. The fundamentals are the foundation of which everything is built on.

Not too long ago I was on the fast track to failure because of the way my mind was programmed. I had FEAR, “The Fear Of Money”. I was so afraid of losing money, the fear was stopping me from making money. This same fear is guilty, for stopping countless people, from even trying to make their vision become a reality.

I know that in this business I am not alone when it comes to fear. So if you have home business, and you experience this fear you will have to reprogram the way you think. This fear will most certainly hold you back from making your piece of the Internet’s wealth.

Instead of fearing losing money promoting your business, and products. "Concentrate more on the making money part"! The thought of making money sounds, and feels better much than the thought of losing money.

Think what steps do I need to take to sell this product, or service. How can I tell everyone about my web site. I suggest doing a little research there are many ways to attract people to a web sit. Don't Mistake Activity For Achievement

I remember watching an NBA Basketball Game on t.v one night. The Miami Heat were playing the New Orleans Hornets. Miami was all over them yet when you looked at the score New Orleans kept pulling ahead.

Bill Walton made the comment "Don't mistake activity for achievement." I'll always remember that. Just because Miami was playing hard didn't mean they were playing smart.

This can apply to our everyday lives and more directly to our internet marketing careers. As we all work hard to make money online and make money at home you should ask yourself this question everyday, "Is what I'm doing right now going to help me make move my business forward?"

I am as guilty of this as anyone. I check my email over and over clicking on the send/recieve button looking for new messages that say something like "Congratulations You Have Made Another Sale."

It is so easy to constantly log into a program and check my stats over and over. What's the point? If they do change it isn't enough to even merit the time it takes to do it over and over.

How about this one. Reading posts in forums until your eyes are blurry. That's o.k if you are involved and making some posts as well. You might as well get your link out there and posting is a great way to learn something as well as do that. But you have to post once in awhile too.

Here's the key to getting yourself past the activity mode and into the achievement mode.

Write down 5 specific things you want to accomplish everyday to help you make money on the internet. Here is an example of this.

1. Make 5 new posts in forums
2. Trade links with 5 quality websites
3. Submit my article to 5 article websites
4. Place my ad in 5 free classified sites
5. Call 5 of my home business prospects


Now what is the key to these 5 things on my list? Well for starters they are written down. Next it is an advertising and marketing driven list.

If you aren't spending 80-90% of your time on advertising and marketing your home business then you have no right to complain when you aren't making any money. It is that simple.

You have to write down action items for the day and the majority of those action items have to be doing something to advertise and market your business.

Every one of us has different amounts of time we can spend everyday working to make money online. It isn't how much time you spend, but how you spend it that will determine your long term success.

The Power Of Thinking Small Online

I know what you're thinking.

There must be a typo error, because everyone's talking about the power of thinking big online. Obviously, thinking big is good. But do not under estimate the power of thinking small.

Here's what I mean:

If you want to make $100,000.00 in a year online, is it easier to achieve it from one source of income, or 10 online source of incomes that can give you $10,000.00 each a year?

The answer? Both are correct. But I'd rather take the second choice by thinking 'small' of creating 10 income streams from the internet to achieve that.

My justification?

It's easier for me to create an income stream that can generate $10,000.00 a year online for me than thinking 'big' to create ONE income stream that generates $100,000.00.

If I can create ONE income stream easily, what's stopping me from creating another 9 similar income streams from the internet to make $100,000.00 a year?

You might disagree with me because you probably say that staying focused on one income stream is easier. That's fair and I absolutely agree.

But, I'll still choose to create 10 income streams because my risk of failure is 10 times less.

Assuming I choose the first choice to make $100,000.00 using ONE income stream.

What happens if I fail? Simple. I lose everything in that one year.

But if I create 10 income streams, I can afford to fail as much as 50% of my income streams and yet, I'll achieve 50% of success. Sounds ironic, yes?

Don't get it wrong. I'm not preaching to be negative of preparing to fail, but I'm preaching reality on how to minimize risk to be successful.

Taking small steps is always easier than taking big steps.

That's why, when I wrote my book for self improvement, 'How To Make More Money Easily', it's about thinking small, not thinking big.

It's not for those who want to make millions.

It's about how ordinary people are able to make an extra income each month easily. If they can make some extra money from one strategy I teach in my ebook, they can easily create 5 more income streams.

Probably the best piece of advice I will ever give you...

Let's face it, setting up a website business is pretty easy when you compare it to, say, opening a shop or restaurant or other 'offline' business. It doesn't cost a lot of money and if you are prepared to learn, you will probably be able to do most of the work yourself. Even if you prefer to hire people to do the work, you can do this very cheaply by using one of the many 'freelance' sites that exist exactly for this purpose.

With this in mind, probably the best piece of advice I will ever give you in relation to your Internet business is this:

'When you are making money with a website, keep your mouth shut!'

In other words, don't go telling everyone about your site and how much you are earning. Don't share this information with your 'friends' on the forums you visit each day, don't tell your friends in the offline world, don't tell anyone that you can't trust 100%.

Why?

Because the world is full of copycats - people that cannot come up with their own original ideas but who are happy to rip off other people's ideas for their own financial benefit.

Now of course, this happens in the offline world too but far more work and money is involved in opening a new restaurant just down the road from another similar business that is already doing well. Even if you could be bothered with the work and could afford to do it, you would still have to face your competitor every single day knowing that you have basically done something that could have had a huge impact on that person's income and the quality of life enjoyed by their family. Most people would not want to be in that situation.

Online this isn't the case. It costs next to nothing to throw up a new site and it is unlikely that you will ever have to face the competitor that you have ripped off.

This means that people do it all the time, so I repeat my comment above, if you have a business online that is making money, keep it to yourself.

Now of course, I am guilty of breaking my own rule in some respects - to the left of this sentence is an advertisement that states a monthly income which is available for everyone to read. This is because there are exceptions to the rule...

Part of my own income is generated from the Internet marketing industry and the competitiveness of this industry means that to have any chance of success, you must already have achieved a degree of success in other areas online. Often, the mark of success is the level of income your businesses are generating.

Here's the thing though, I own several online businesses that no one in the Internet marketing industry knows about and they generate just as much income for me as my businesses. Some of my closest friends don't know about these websites!

These sites quietly generate income and several are in completely untapped markets with little/no competition. If I were to reveal the markets, I would be flooded with competition in hours.

I am not alone - most successful Internet marketers keep their cards close to their chests - why wouldn't they? It is daft to start shouting about what is making you money as this simply tempts the copycats out and into the game. Making a success of any business is hard enough but to invite competition is crazy!

If at some point you decide you want to venture into the Internet marketing 'how to' industry then do as I have done and make a couple of your sites high profile but keep the big money earners a secret.

Which brings me to another point - a lot of people first try to make money online in the Internet marketing arena and this is a big mistake. This is an incredibly competitive area and there is just as much money to be made in other markets and most of the time it is, quite simply, a heck of a lot easier...

Think about it, in the Internet marketing industry you are usually pitching to other people that have a much higher awareness of sales techniques than 'normal' people. You are used to pop ups, autoresponders, newsletter lists, free ebooks etc and know that they are all designed to get you to spend money. Thing is though it works but how much better would it work in an industry where the customers don't have the same level of awareness? I can tell you - a LOT better :-)

Network Marketing Internet Business Do's and Don'ts

Why did you start your own network marketing internet business? Most people immediately respond, “for the money!” However, this is not the real reason.

No one subjects them to the hard work of building a business just for little pieces of paper with the faces of dead presidents. The truth is you work in order to obtain what those little pieces of paper can bring you.

The first thing you need to do is to find the reason WHY you are a network marketer. Is it the freedom to choose whatever you want to do whenever you want to do it? Maybe you are looking for a different lifestyle. If there is one thing that is critical to your network marketing internet business success, this is it. If you don’t have a reason, there is no motivation to succeed.

A network marketing business is a teaching and coaching business. If you don’t like interaction with other people, a network marketing business probably is not for you. There’s a concept that most network marketers just can’t seem to get a handle on. You do not sponsor “reps", you sponsor “people!”

If you have to find a reason why you are building your network marketing business, on the internet then doesn’t it stand to reason that other people will have to do the same thing? If that’s the case, then why is it that network marketers continually focus on how much money your prospect can earn?

There’s no way you are going to convince “Joe Sixpack”, to get out of his Lazyboy recliner unless you find out what his motivation is. Most network marketers literally pound in the amount of money Joe can earn. They bombard him with message after message about how “Successful Sam” has just purchased his 10th Porsche, refurnished his 25,000 square foot cottage and promise Joe that he can do the same!

Just how realistic is this approach? Joe isn’t stupid. He works long, hard hours at his job in order to provide for his family and truly believes that the best thing he can hope for is saving enough money by summer to pay for a camping trip. Then here you come, promising Joe that he can have everything that Sam has and he can have it if he will just sign that piece of paper making you his sponsor!

You will probably sponsor a few people that way, but if you are in business for the long haul you need to change your approach and do it fast.

The proper approach is so simple, but in your rush to sponsor another “rep” instead of helping another person, all too often you talk yourself into and straight out of sponsoring the Joes of the world.

God gave you two ears and one mouth and he did it for a reason. We are supposed to “listen” twice as much as we “speak.”

Instead of pouncing on Joe with the latest and greatest network marketing program of all time, find out what Joe wants and needs. Ask him questions, lots of questions. In fact, in your first meeting with Joe, don’t even mention your business! Yes, that’s what I said. Don’t even bring it up. Remove yourself from the super duper network marketing persona and spend time making a new friend.

Follow these recommendations and you are set to grow your network marketing internet business as large as you want.

Can You Use Hynotic Like Statements to Sell More Products?

As I become more successful with my internet business I have become interested in ways to move my business to the next level. Besides pumping more money into advertising it occured to me that increasing my closing percentage on my websites to the visitors I am getting would be a free way to make more money without spending more money to do it.

Writing better copy in my ads and on my websites itself surely would help me reach this goal.
